The PeeMan has had enough of Japanese Beetles!
(Actually, it’s Mrs. PeeMan who has had enough of Japanese Beetles and ipso facto the PeeMan has too!)
She has tried all those fancy pheromone bag-traps and she is convinced she has more Japanese Beetles than before – more in the bags and more on her flowers! And science has proved her right...again!
Studies have proven that because Japanese beetle traps release both a sex pheromone and a floral fragrance, they are extremely effective in attracting adult beetles not only into the trap-bags, but also attracting more Japanese Beetles into your yard than you started with! When you use a pheromone trap you may be helping your neighbor’s garden much more than you are benefiting your own!
So, the PeeMan thought he would look what smart gardeners have been doing on their own. It turns out that when you substitute a food lure for the sex lure and use it with a homemade trap, you can trap the Japanese Beetles already in your garden without attracting new ones! The problem with this homemade Japanese beetle repellent is that it sounds like a messy and complicated science-project-combination of thrashing about with milk jugs, dish soap, geranium petals, bailing wire, fermented fruit and a whole bunch of other stuff.
So the PeeMan said to himself:
“PeeMan, why don’t you take this homemade, do-it-yourself mess and turn it into a simple, easy-to-use kit?”
And that is exactly what he did!
